LeBrun Toyota Scion in Canandaigua has been awarded the prestigious President's Award from Toyota Motor Sales again for 2009. It is the fifth time the dealership has been awarded the President's Award.  The President's award honors those Toyota dealers who excel in all facets of their operations-those dealers who have proven themselves to be Toyota's very best and who are committed to high standards of customer satisfaction.

LeBrun Toyota, established in 1998, is owned by Dave and Steve LeBrun, who have been in the automotive industry for over 30 years.

"It's an honor to be a multiple-award recipient of the President's Award," says Steve LeBrun. It is a reflection of the continued high level of participation and commitment to excellent customer service by each employee at LeBrun that makes this award possible," he added.

In order to qualify for the President's Award from Toyota, dealerships must meet rigorous standards set forth in each of a series of categories including Customer Sales Satisfaction and Customer Service Satisfaction.

Toyota to Expand Field Quality Offices

To speed up information-gathering on vehicles, Toyota is opening six more product quality field offices in North America, following the success of its first office in the New York Region launched in late 2009. One new office is set to open this month in San Francisco and will be for hybrid-only vehicle problems. The addition of these offices will bring the total number of product field quality offices in North America to seven and globally to 21.

"These steps are more than fixing past mistakes," said Dino Triantafyllos, vice president for quality at Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, told Bloomberg. "It's also about overall quality improvements."

Toyota Assigns 1,000 Engineers to Help Analyze Safety Issues

As part of its continuing effort to ensure the quality of its vehicles, Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) said Wednesday it has assigned 1,000 engineers to help analyze safety issues and it is extending the testing time for new models by an average of four weeks.

TMC Executive Vice President Takeshi Uchiyamada disclosed the moves while speaking to U.S. reporters on a study tour of Toyota's operations in Japan.  The tour includes visits to testing labs to show the reporters the efforts the company is making to ensure quality.

Tesla Working on Electric Vehicle Prototypes With Toyota

Toyota Motor Corporation and Tesla are developing an electric vehicle prototype as part of their partnership in electric vehicles, TMC President Akio Toyoda has told reporters. Although there has been media speculation that Tesla has been working on and may soon deliver Toyota RAV4 and Lexus RX prototypes, neither Toyota nor Tesla has confirmed specific models. In May, the two companies announced that Toyota would invest $50 million in Tesla shares, and the automakers would jointly develop electric car models.

Toyota Quality Review Group: New Steps Effective but More Needed

An independent body reviewing Toyota's quality control improvements in Japan told the company its measures will be effective, TMC told Dow Jones today. However, the group also suggested Toyota take additional steps, such as increasing information-sharing between divisions.

The Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) and four experts appointed by the organization presented a report of their review to Toyota. This is JUSE's first report since Toyota asked the body to examine measures outlined by the automaker's global quality committee on March 30.

The report praised TMC for enhanced capabilities for gathering and analyzing overseas customer information, including complaints submitted to NHTSA. The group also commended the company for assigning design responsibility for crucial parts, such as gas pedals, to single divisions instead of spreading it across several areas.

At the same time, JUSE said Toyota's quality-related divisions could work more closely with its legal division. Toyota's after-sales service staff, which deals directly with customers, could also work with design and R & D staff to better reflect customer needs.

Toyota will review its progress in measures adopted at the suggestion of JUSE at its second global quality meeting to be held in October.
